IOP For Dual Diagnosis
Dual Diagnosis means you have a mental health problem (such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, or bipolar disorder) and a drug abuse problem at the same time. These problems usually make one another worse which makes recovery difficult. For example, if someone is drinking alcohol or taking drugs to deal with emotional distress it would make mental health problems worse.
Our IOP for Dual Diagnosis provides integrated evidence-based care that includes both addiction treatment and mental health care. This method helps you see how the two problems are related and gives you the resources you need to identify the root cause.
Why Choose IOP for Dual Diagnosis

Our Integrated Approach to Treatment
The IOP for Dual Diagnosis at Freedom Recovery Center includes clinical treatment, medical support, and holistic wellness. Our team of professionals from different fields, including certified therapists, addiction counselors, and psychiatric experts, works together to design a treatment plan that is unique to each person.
1. Individual Therapy
Work with a licensed therapist to get to the bottom of your specific problems, triggers, and emotional patterns. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) are two of the main parts of our method. They help you change the way you think and learn how to deal with problems.
2. Group Therapy
True recovery happens in community. Our group sessions help people understand one another better, feel less alone, and learn how to communicate in ways that are important for recovery.
3. Medication Management
For a lot of people with both a mental illness and a drug problem, psychiatric medication is a crucial part of keeping things stable. Our psychiatric team offers comprehensive examination and continued medication management.
4. Preventing Relapse and Building Skills
You will learn how to deal with cravings, stress, and early signs of relapse all while strengthening your emotional strength and good behaviors.
5. Family Involvement
Addiction and mental health difficulties affect everyone. Our family therapy sessions help people trust each other again, set boundaries, and make the house safe to live in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Who is eligible for a Dual Diagnosis IOP?
Dual Diagnosis IOP is suitable for individuals who:
- Are medically stable
- Are living in a safe, supportive environment
- Need intensive care but still want to be connected to their daily life
- Are willing to engage in therapy and support services
What kinds of therapies and supports are included in a Dual Diagnosis IOP?
You can expect a comprehensive program that includes:
- Individual therapy (e.g., CBT, DBT) to address both mental health and substance use.
- Group therapy to build peer support and learn skills.
- Medication management
- Relapse prevention training, coping skills, trigger-mapping and life-skills workshops.
- Family or support system involvement in some programs
How long does a Dual Diagnosis IOP usually last?
Duration and intensity vary depending on the program, diagnosis and individual needs. Most programs range from about 6-12 weeks. In terms of weekly commitment, you’ll attend multiple sessions per week (sometimes 3-5 days/week) with a combination of group, individual and family therapy.
What if I relapse during the IOP?
Relapse does not mean failure. With dual diagnosis conditions, relapse risk is higher if only one condition is treated. That’s why our IOP has integrated care for both disorders. If a relapse occurs, the team revisits your treatment plan, increases therapeutic supports, adjusts medication or psychiatric care, and changes strategies.
